Welcome Letter from the Librarian

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome back!  I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing summer with family and friends.

All students will visit the library once a week for 30 minutes.   Books can be checked out on a weekly basis and can be renewed for up to three weeks.  In addition to checking out books they will receive instruction aligned with the Common Core Standards.  Some of our learning goals this year are listed below.

INVESTIGATING -Uses inquiry to build understanding and create new knowledge
Ongoing learning/ research projects will engage the children in information literacy, technology, and critical thinking skills.
Grade level classroom curriculum will be integrated into the lessons whenever possible.

EXPLORING -Develops strategies for personal growth and exploration of literature.
Responds to literature through discussions and projects.
Collaborates with partners to work in groups and share information and ideas.
Independently selects materials at a variety of levels and genres.

CITIZENSHIP -Employs social responsibility in a digital learning community.
Using the Internet and technology in a safe and respectful manner – etiquette, cyberbullying.
Gain awareness of intellectual property- copyright, plagiarism, paraphrasing, citing sources of information.

If a book is lost or damaged, it is our school policy that the book is either replaced or paid for so a new one can be purchased.

I look forward to an exciting new school year with your children.  Don’t forget to check out my website for student work and library notices.  If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to e-mail or call and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
