Substance Abuse

Substance abuse prevention and intervention services are available at Sachem East. Mr. Adam Intravia , CASAC, is available to students and families as our Drug and Alcohol Counselor. Students may self-refer or parents, teachers, and staff may contact "Mr. I" if they have a concern about alcohol or drug use negatively impacting their life or others.

Mr. Intravia began working at East in 2015, after having worked in our district since 2010, providing counseling at both Sagamore & Sequoya Middle Schools. He has experience working in different rehabs, detox/inpatient care, outpatient, and intensive-outpatient levels of care for adolescents, adults, and families. Mr. Intravia is available to students and their families Monday through Friday on the first floor in the Student Services office suite. Counseling services are offered for a variety of issues related to functioning such as: substance abuse, intervention, prevention and referrals, attendance problems, anxiety disorders, stress occurring at home, AFY/PINS cases w/ legal system involvement, or any other concern that may interfere with a healthy and happy life. Referrals for other levels of treatment- like outpatient, residential living, self-help groups, mental health or medical care, and legal support- are available, and counseling will focus on helping students to gain insight and skills necessary for optimal functioning, as well as supporting academic success. Mr. I also provides ongoing classroom education on substance use, tobacco/vaping/nicotine use, and other issues of relevance regularly with the Health Education staff. He is a member of the Sachem Substance Abuse Task Force.
