Wenonah Elementary School came together in a joyful celebration of inclusion and community during its 2nd Annual Wenonah Walk, the culminating event of Autism Acceptance Month. This schoolwide event gave students in grades K–5 the chance to rotate through sensory-based stations designed to honor and explore the importance of sensory integration.

Throughout the month, students participated in activities that promoted awareness and understanding of neurodiversity. They created vibrant sensory bulletin boards, recorded read-alouds and presented thoughtful research projects on topics related to autism and neurodiversity.

The walk itself was filled with excitement and energy. With chalk art, dancing, balloons and parachute games, the day was both fun and meaningful. Parent volunteers also joined in to support the stations and help make the event a success.

This special day served as a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion – and of the strength and unity within the Wenonah community.

This family-friendly event will feature an exciting lineup of musical performances, showcasing local talent and filling the air with rhythm and joy. Explore a variety of community resources that highlight the wonderful organizations and services in our area. There will be food samples from different parts of the world, offering a taste into the many cultural cuisines that make up Sachem. Children can browse and create different projects at arts and crafts booths, where they can enjoy interactive activities. Whether you’re connecting with neighbors or discovering something new, this event promises to be a memorable afternoon for all!

On March 28, students from Sachem High School East’s French 5/AP class, led by teacher Ana Meadows, embarked on a cultural journey to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City. The visit featured a guided tour centered on works by francophone artists and those influenced by the Impressionist movement.

Students explored iconic pieces, including Claude Monet’s “Water Lilies,” Henri Matisse’s “The Red Studio,” Joan Mitchell’s “Grandes Carrières” and Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night.” The tour also included the Gallery 501 exhibit, “French Landscapes and Interiors.”

The guide connected each work of art to the AP French theme of “Beauty and Aesthetics,” encouraging students to reflect on how Impressionism has shaped cultural identity and artistic expression. Students also participated in interactive, hands-on activities that deepened their engagement with the art and allowed them to express their personal interpretations.

Following the museum visit, the group enjoyed lunch at Brasserie Cognac in midtown Manhattan, where they experienced a taste of traditional French cuisine.

Merrimac Elementary proudly recognized its March Citizens of the Month – students who exemplify the power of patience. Honorees were selected for consistently showing they can wait with grace, maintaining good behavior and a positive attitude even in challenging moments.

These remarkable students demonstrate kindness, gratitude, commitment and strong coping skills, traits that help them stay patient and lead by example. Merrimac is proud to celebrate these outstanding individuals who continue to make their school community a better place.
